Meteorological input variables

Variables that should be included are listed in a document, which can be downloaded
[here]. It has already been sent to global climate modellers, e.g. our NorESM colleagues at met.no, our ECHAM colleagues at FZJ, and our RCA3 colleagues at SMHI.

Open Source EMEP/MSC-W model

The EMEP models have been instrumental to the development of air quality policies in Europe since the late 1970s, mainly through their support to the strategy work under the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution. In the 1990s the EMEP models became also the reference tools for atmospheric dispersion calculations as input to the Integrated Assessment Modelling, which supports the development of air quality polices in the European Union.

PM underestimation in the EMEP model

Participants:
DS,ST,JEJ,BMS,ACB,MG,HF,PW,MS

Possible reasons:

* pH dependency of SO2 ox rate

* wet scavenging (in ice, scavenging rates ...)

* emission heights:

DS:I have started this, testing different plume-rise
formula together with the IIASA . Peter contributed with a subroutine to
spread the emissions into flexible vertical layers also. Should all be
ready soon-ish, but probably won't change things very much as you say. (probably not important)

Work planned

-use emep birch map (David)

-implement other pollen types

Work done
